Gladbrook Alpha Club meets in February

The Alpha Study Club met at the Peace Church on February 23, 2021 with Pat Clausen as hostess. President Marcia Plett opened the meeting sharing some fun facts about February. Roll call was answered by twelve members. The Secretary’s report was read. There was no correspondence this month. The Treasurer’s report remains the same as there has been no activity during the past month. There were no corrections so both reports will stand as read.

At this time Marcia passed out copies of the reworked constitution which includes several revised amendments. We are to destroy any old copies of previous constitutions we have so there is no confusion in the future. Marcia will be mailing copies to members who were not present at the meeting. Bonnie Murty reported that there are over 600 recipes for the Corn Carnival cookbook.

Under New Business we will be putting books in the library for deceased members and deceased spouses of members.

Kathy Herink reviewed the book “A Delayed Life by Dita Kraus.” Dita grew up in Prague in an intellectual, middle class Jewish family. She went to school, played with her friends, and never thought of herself as being different until the advent of the Holocaust. Torn from her home, Dita was sent to Auschwitz with her family.

From her time in the children’s block of Auschwitz to her liberation from the camps and on into her adulthood, Dita’s powerful memoir sheds light on an incredible life. One that is delayed no longer.

Our next meeting is March 23 hosted by Connie Buchman.
