GMG girls end season against Spartans
MAXWELL — The Class 1A No. 12 Collins-Maxwell girls’ basketball team led from the outset and rolled to a 55-22 victory over Iowa Star Conference South Division foe GMG in Thursday’s Region 6 first-round pairing.
Brooke Christie scored a game-high 17 points to lead Collins-Maxwell (21-1), while Erica Houge added 13 points and Reagan Frandsen finished with 11 points.
The Spartans made eight 3-pointers in the victory.
Marriah Stonewall led GMG with six points in its season-ending loss. Emily Vaughn and Jenna Yilek scored five points apiece, while Jocee Mason, Kaylea Duden and Reese Dieleman each pitched in with two points.
The Wolverines (6-14) fell behind 16-7 after the first quarter and trailed by double-digits, 29-11, at the half.
Collins-Maxwell advances to host Belle Plaine in the Region 6 quarterfinals on Tuesday night after the Plainsmen defeated Meskwaki Settlement School in their first-round game, 70-54.
