The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that the SCAM ARTISTS are hard at work. Reports were received today of 2 potential victims of scams that were able to be stopped either by alert family members or their financial institution. Scams may include: 1) a telephone call stating they are a relative in jail needing bond money or fine money 2) a telephone call stating they are a relative in the hospital needing money to get treatment or released 3) a telephone call stating they are the IRS and the victim needs to send money 4) a telephone call stating they are Police Dept or Sheriff’s Office and the victim owes money. Do NOT send money. Call your relatives first and ask where they are and if they are in trouble or need money. Listen to your bank officials if they advise you that the withdrawal of money is NOT in your best interest. Report such calls to your local law enforcement agency.
