JV Rebel Football

By; Coach Mike Bengen On Monday September 28 the youthful Rebels made the long haul down on highway 30 to State Center to take on the Trojans from West Marshall. We always know when we go down there, we better be ready because we always seem to have a very competitive game with them. Another year against these guys and that is exactly what we got. We jumped out early with three quick scores as we led 20-0 barely into the second quarter. Kaleb Hendricks reached pay dirt twice and Josh Peterson once as we stormed out to what seemed like a commanding lead. Things can change in a hurry and they did. West Marshall struck quickly and often in the second quarter to knot the score at 20 at the break. Matt Johannsen caught a 22 yard Jackson Kiburis pass for the go ahead score but the Trojans responded with a score of their own. We added another Kaleb TD run and Colton Clark also crossed the goal line in the fourth quarter to give us 42 points. WM added another score to pull within 42-35 but it was too late as we held on to the victory. This moves us to 2-3 on the year. Kaleb had a huge night on the ground with a lot of the credit going out to his linemen. He toted it 26 times for 243 yards and 3 touchdowns. Josh added 31 yards and a TD and Colton’s 5 yard TD run ended our rushing stats. This is a season high for us with 279 rushing yards. Jackson had another solid night offensively. He finished 13 of 16 for 158 yards and a score which both of these bettered his career highs from last week. Matt caught 6 balls for 96 yards and a score. Colton caught 3 balls for 25 yards, Cael Wyatt 2 for 19, Caden Kickbush 1 for 12, and Seth Gretillat 1 for 6 for our receiving totals. Josh Peterson, Rhett Barnes, and Kaleb led the defense with 5 stops apiece. Kyle Koppen and Cael 4, Colton, Bryce Schick, Matt, and William Blakesley 3, Bronson Wrage, Lane Bowman, and Seth 2, D’Mico Rodriguez, Reece Gilbert, Caden, Tyler Beenken, and Tyson Creswell each had 1 tackle each to aid our cause. Bronson recovered a fumble and Cael picked off a Trojan pass for our turnovers. This is a good win for the Rebels to grow on. We need to continue to work hard and improve every week. We are over half done with this season. We need to build for the future. Our next action will be Monday October 5 we will play host to the Redhawks from North Tama at 6 pm. then on Monday October 12 we will host the Cougars from AGWSR. Check out the future of G-R Rebel football.

JV Rebel Football

By: Coach Mike Bengen The Rebels were looking to ring in the month of October with a bang. We were hosting the Redhawks from North Tama on Monday October 5. We had been playing much improved and better football as of late so we all were hoping this would continue on this awesome autumn evening. We kicked off to start the game and the Redhawks put together a nice drive and were methodically moving the ball down the field. Once NT reached our 30 yard line then things got tough. We tightened and denied the Redhawks on a fourth down try so we took over on downs. We then put together a great drive of our own and Kaleb Hendricks reached pay dirt from a yard out for our first score. Jackson Kiburis hit Matt Johannsen for the PAT conversion and we led 8-0. The second quarter we dominated the line of scrimmage and took care of business as we added another Kaleb TD run and a Matt to Caden Kickbush 35 yard scoring strike out of our reverse pass play. We led 24-0 at the half. We received the second half kickoff and 4 plays later Kaleb exploded for another touchdown covering 50 yards. We added the PAT run and had a comfortable 32-0 lead after 3 quarters. After an NT turnover Kaleb struck again to make the final score 38-0 moving our record to 3-3 with 2 games left. The offensive line did a nice job as we had 25 rushes for 293 and completed 5 of 6 passes for 68 yards. We were pretty solid all the way around except for a fumble and more penalties than we would like. This group has shown steady improvement and that is all you can ask for. Kaleb had another huge night on the ground with 15 carries for 249 yards and 4 touchdowns. Colton Clark had 5 rushes for 15 yards and 2 PAT runs. Gage Murty 1 for 12, Matt 1 for 8, Jackson 1 for 4, Cael Wyatt 1 for 3, and Seth Gretillat 1 for 2 yards for our rushing totals. Jackson finished 4 of 5 for 33 yards and Matt went 1 for 1 for 35 yards for our passing yardage. Caden hauled in 2 balls for 42 yards and a score. Cael catch 1 for 13, Matt 1 for 12, and Lane Bowman added a catch for 3 yards. Defensively we had Lane, Bronson Wrage, and Bryce Schick lead the way with 5 stops apiece. They were fo1lowed closely by Kaleb, Colton, and Matt with 4. Gage and Slade Wager 3, Cael, Tyler Sparks, William Blakesley, D’Mico Rodriguez, Kyle Koppen, and Rhett Barnes all had 2 tackles each for our defense. Matt also added an interception. Our next action will be Monday October 12 we will play host to the Cougars from AGWSR at 6 pm. Our finale will be on Monday October 19 at 6 pm at Grundy Center against the Spartans. See you on the sidelines previewing the future of G-R Rebel football.
