“Rebels Outsized by Cougars” The young Rebels hosted the Cougars from AGWSR on January 13, 2015 in Gladbrook. Size and athleticism was a major factor in this game. First quarter play saw the Rebels down early as the Cougars inside game was hard to stop as a huge difference in size led to a 13-2 deficit. The Rebels found their way back as they started to hit some shots while holding down the Cougars big guys. Still down with a 20-9 score at half-time, the Rebels were looking to improve in the second half. Starting third quarter action the Rebels were working on team goals both offensively and defensively. They scored 8 points while holding the Cougars to 11 points, still trailing 31-17. During the final stanza play both teams went up and down the court matching baskets only to find the Cougars with a sizable lead en route to a 46-25 loss for the Rebels. “Rebels Lose Nail-biter to Tigers” On January 15, 2015, the Rebels headed west to Radcliffe, Iowa to take on the Tigers from South Hardin. Starting the game the young Rebels felt confident against a team that had beaten them by twenty points the first game of the season. Low scoring was the theme for the first quarter as the Rebels trailed by a slim 5-4 deficit. The Rebels tried to crawl back in the second quarter only to find the opponents increase the lead to 16-9 as the men in blue missed several free throws. Second half action saw the Rebels pick up the pressure on defense and working on offense to get the good shot. Still trailing 22-16 after three quarters the Rebels were ready to push onward for a win. Starting the final stanza all players were eager to complete the task, defense and attacking the basket lead to the Rebels trailing by 2 points with 12 seconds left and on the line for two free throws. After making one of the two and fouling to get the ball, the Rebels fell short with a hard fought loss 30-27.
