Fresh-Soph Rebel Football-Wapsie Valley by: Coach Mike Bengen
We made to trip northeast to Wapsie Valley on Friday October 24th. We were the lead act for the varsity showdown at 7:30 that same night. Wapsie has a fine program and their coaches and players are always prepared and will give you their best effort. We had to match that for us to be successful on the Warriors’ home field. The Rebels were extremely sloppy in the first half, and for that matter, the whole game. We lacked energy and effort the whole night. Our execution on even the simplest of things was not sharp and it cost us. We fell to a team that we should have competed against and probably handles if we would have played our “B” game. It was a disappointing end to the Fresh-Soph season. The 22-16 setback drops us to 1-2 for the year. There just were not many positives coming off the field on this night. We have a ton of work to do in the off season. We need to become bigger, faster, and stronger to compete in our district and continue on the Rebel tradition. This will not happen just because we want it to or we think it is our time. It takes dedication and sacrifice. It will require early mornings for strength and conditioning and some late nights with our other winter and spring sports. There can be no excuses. The million dollar question is how bad you want it. This is not only for you but for all of your team mates. We are all in this together and every single player has a responsibility to this team. Don’t be a weak link and an average team mate. Be special. Again we come to an end of a year of football. I love working with the kids and wish I had more time to do so but the program is in great hands. John Olson, Darren Trunck, Chad Bixby, Brett Bengen, Dillan Trunck, Kirk Dinsdale, and Sean Babinat are second to none as a coaching staff. No one really has any idea what all goes into our preparation not only for games and opponents but also day to day practice and the off season. These guys put a ton of time and it is just not on the field. I am extremely honored and proud to be a member of this staff. These guys have continued to expand and grow the tradition of Gladbrook-Reinbeck football. I want to thank them for all of their hours of hard work all through the year. Your sons are in great hands. As a football program we also want to thank all of you fans and parents for all of your support. All of you behind us makes it easier for all of us to expect the best. Thank you all in Rebel Nation.
