South Tama & Grundy Center Track Results By: Coach Andy McQuillen

Chase Clark begins his approach in the long jump. Clark finished 2nd at the South Tama Coed with a leap of 19’ 5.25”.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys track team participated in South Tama Coed on Tuesday evening and the Grundy Center Invite on Thursday evening this past week. Both of those meets provided different opportunities for the Rebel athletes to participate in a multitude of events. And finally, it was nice to run in some spring-like temperatures. Highlights from the South Tama Coed included the shuttle hurdle relay team of Erik Knaack, Parker Bown, Chase Clark, and Eric Stoakes setting a new school record and bringing home a gold medal with a time of 1:06.4. Eric Stoakes finished second in the 400 low hurdles with a time of 58.25. Wyatt Swanson finished second in the 800M run with a time of 2:07.73. The 4×400 team of Parker Bown, Jake Schuman, Tyler Bovy and Austin Lott finished third with a time of 4:00.00. Chase Clark brought home a pair of silver medals in the high jump (5’6“) and long jump (19′ 5.25”). Zach Pierce finished second in the discus with a throw of 120’10” and first in the shot put with a toss of 46’6.5″. The Grundy Center Invite included several local schools and moved very quickly. The Rebels had a limited lineup with the boy’s soccer team playing on Thursday night too. Zach Pierce finished with a gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 45’11” and a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 108’2″. Tyler Bovy brought home a silver medal with a second place finish in the 3200M run with a time of 10:52. Wyatt Swanson finished second in the 400M run with a time of 54.29. Eric Stoakes finished first in the 400M low hurdles with a time of 57.00. And the 4×100 team of Jeff Tscherter, Jake Schuman, Shye Johnston and Eric Stoakes finished third with a time of 48.61. The Rebels had a good week on the track. There was a great deal of improvement in running times, and the continued growth in the field events is a positive sign. The ability to practice on a track now will be a positive from this point forward. Plus, there is plenty of work to do in this young season, but the addition of some young runners that have stepped up and made a difference in relays early in the season has been a big plus. The Rebels will hit the track this week at Jesup (Tuesday) and Hudson (Thursday).
