JV Rebel Football By: Coach Mike Bengen

Traer was our next stop on a busy October. On the 7th we had a battle set up with the Redhawks from North Tama and we knew we would need to be ready to go. NT has a strong tradition and we were ready to test that tradition with our fine football team. It was a beautiful autumn night and we were in for some fine football as we have been improving every time out. We were ready to rumble. The game started quickly for us as we held the Redhawks to a 3 and out and then proceeded to block their first punt out of the end zone for a safety and an early 2-0 lead. We made another stop and Kainen Hendricks took a handoff and dashed 22 to pay dirt for the score. NT promptly returned the kickoff for a score of their own and it was game on. We marched another drive down the field and on a Jake Schuman to Cameron Murphy 26 yard toss we scored again ending quarter number one with a 16-6 advantage. The second quarter slowed a bit until right before half. NT punted to us with 20 seconds to go and Jake fielded the punt and followed his blockers straight to the end zone for a 23-6 lead at the break. The second half we came out very focused and intense. We put together two very good drives that Kainen capped off with his second and third touchdowns of the night. Parker Bown added a 50 yard sprint in the fourth quarter to push us on to a convincing 44-12 victory. This moves us to 5-1 on the year. Parker led the way with 164 yards on the ground with 1 TD and 6 PAT kicks. Kainen had career highs for us with 80 yards rushing and 3 scores along with a blocked punt and 3 tackles. Jake added 18 rushing yards and 45 passing yards to our cause. Cameron caught 1 ball for a score and Erik Knaack caught another for 19 yards. Erik also added a pick late in the first half for us. Bryce Clark led the way with 7 stops followed by Cameron with 6. Jacob Walters had 4 tackles and a blocked punt. Thomas Mussig made 3 stops and also recovered a fumble. Jed Peterson 3, Tyler Pierce, Parker, and Spencer Goos 2, Jake, Carter Murphy, and Joe Baugus 1 each for our defensive totals. Credit needs to go out to all of our kids for their hard work and dedication. The offensive and defensive lines played very good football especially the second half as we dominated the line of scrimmage. This is a group of fine young men that are very coachable and have a good work ethic. We are very pleased with their progress and are convinced Rebel football is rolling. With some more hard work in the weight room and in the off season, I am telling you these kids are going to be a lot of fun to watch. See you on the sidelines watching our future.
