JV Rebel Football By: Coach Mike Bengen

On Monday September 30 the JV squad traveled northwest to Ackley to take on the #6 rated Cougars from AGWSR. We knew we were in for a battle. The Cougars are big and physical and play smash mouth football. They line up and come at you. You have to figure out how to stop that. We had our game plan and we knew we needed a great effort and execution to have success on this road trip. This game started with each team not getting much going other than us getting a quick score after a fumble recovery by Dalton Schwartz and taking the first quarter 7-0. The second quarter saw us struggle with some special teams play. This resulted in very good field position for the Cougars virtually the whole quarter. Our defense stiffened and we held AGWSR scoreless on two possessions that were inside the 10 yard line. We held our 7-0 advantage at the half. The second half adjustments seemed to be our ticket to success as we flew around and made play after play. We forced 3 more fumbles which led to points as we stormed to an impressive second half to claim a 28-0 victory. This moves us to 4-1 on the year. Eric Stoakes again had a fine game finishing with 132 yards on 16 carries and 3 TD’s. Jake Schuman added 26 yards on the ground and 22 through the air while Parker Bown chipped in 22 yards rushing. Cameron Murphy caught all three of Jake’s passes to account for our receiving yards. Parker was also 4 of 4 on PAT kicks. Defensively we were led by Ty Eiffler with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery. Thomas Mussig added 7 stops and Cameron and Dalton had 5 each. Bryce Clark, Josh Cooley, and Jacob Walters 3, Eric, Parker, Carter Murphy, Jed Peterson, Matt Roeding, Alex Tscherter, and Erik Knaack also added a defensive stop. Kainen Hendricks had 2 tackles and a big time play with a scoop and score fumble recovery for our other touchdown. Parker also aided our cause with a fumble recovery and an interception to help us win the turnover battle. That was key to our victory. We had 1 turnover compared to their 5 and that is a difference maker. Very nice victory and we need to keep on working on our game. We need to reduce our mistakes and penalties and things will continue to get better. Nice work fellas. Our next action will be Monday October 14 with a JV game at The Pit versus the Grundy Center Spartans starting at 6 pm. The Fresh-Soph group will then play again on Thursday October 17 at home against Denver. Come on out and see the future of Rebel football. See you on the sidelines.
