GMG logs monumental win-GMG 27, North Tama 13

TRAER – GMG’s balanced offensive attack racked up 424 yards and helped the Wolverines defeat North Tama, 27-13, for the first time since 2005. Austin Vaughn ran 25 times for 150 yards and a 34-yard touchdown, which put GMG (3-1, 1-0) in front 17-7 during the fourth quarter. Vaughn also had a pair of 20-yard field goals, the last of which accounted for the final points of the Class A District 4 contest. Bridger Claassen completed 11-of-21 passes for 168 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He hooked up with Luke Petty for an 8-yard TD that gave GMG a comfortable 24-7 lead in the fourth. Brock Fisher finished with 66 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Bryce Newcomb led the receiving corps with four catches for 68 yards. Trent Geiken had a team-high 10 tackles, while Fisher had eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Jacob Burt also recovered a fumble, and Eric Lada blocked an extra-point kick. Brody Hulme found Riley Rohach for both North Tama touchdowns, spanning 20 and 30 yards. No other statistics were reported for North Tama (0-4, 0-1), which plays at Iowa Valley next week. GMG hosts Grundy Center in league play.
