G-R Volleyball-Rebels win three, lose two in own tournament

REINBECK – Playing against several conference rivals, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels went 3-2 in its host tournament Saturday. The Rebels beat BCLUW, GMG and AGWSR before falling short against North Butler and Class 1A No. 3 Janesville. Gladbrook-Reinbeck beat BCLUW in three games, winning 18-21, 21-14, 15-6. Shelton Hatch led the Rebels with eight kills and was 9-for-9 in serving. Hayley Weber added four kills and nine digs, while Britney Keller had four kills and a team-high 17 digs. Jenny Schildroth turned in a team-high 19 assists, while Erin Wentzien finished with 10 digs and was 9-for-9 in serving. Keller and Schildroth also were perfect in serving as the Rebels were 52-for-54 in that category as a team. Before beating AGWSR in three, the Rebels took down GMG in straight sets. Hatch had four kills and two aces as Gladbrook-Reinbeck beat GMG 21-14, 21-5. Also assisting in the win were Schildroth’s 10 aces, Wentzien’s 10 digs and the team’s seven aces and a 39-for-41 serving performance. Keller was 12-for-12 in serving, while Wentzien was 10-for-11. The Rebels beat AGWSR 21-18, 14-21, 15-8 and were led by Hatch and Keller, who both had eight kills. Schildroth finished with 21 assists and nine digs and served 13-for-13 with three aces. Wentzien added 10 digs. North Butler beat Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-7) in three games and the Rebels lost to Janesville in two. Keller had eight kills against North Butler, while Schildroth added 17 assists. Keller and Wentzien both had six digs as well. Janesville beat G-R 21-7, 21-12, and Ellie Stoakes had three kills, Schildroth had seven assists and Wentzien finished with seven digs. BCLUW went 2-3 on the day with its wins coming against GMG and AGWSR. The Comets opened up with a loss in three games to Gladbrook-Reinbeck and were led by Kendall Scurr and Olivia Calloway’s six kills. Nicolette Simpson added 12 assists while Nicole Montgomery and Raelynn Aicher both had five digs. Against GMG, BCLUW was led by Haley Veldhouse’s seven kills, Simpon’s seven assists and Mallory Vawter’s three digs. Emily Mossman added six aces and was 10-for-10 in serving. Scurr was 11-of-11 in serving as the Comets were 40-of-41 as a team. The straight set win over AGWSR featured a team-high six kills and eight digs from Scurr, 16 assists from Simpson and a 40-of-42 team performance in serving. Veldhouse added four kills, while Reeba Box had four kills and three digs. North Butler beat BCLUW (4-11) in three. Callaway turned in eight kills and seven digs, while Simpson had 15 assists and eight digs. Scurr had four kills, seven digs and 8-for-8 serving. Janesville had its way with BCLUW, winning 21-10, 21-11. The Comets had only eight kills in the match, led by Box’s three.
