SE Webster-Grand ends long streak against GMG

GARWIN – Both GMG and Southeast Webster-Grand had long losing streaks they wanted to see come to an end Friday night. However, only one team ended the losing streak and that team was Southeast Webster-Grand as it dominated the trenches against the Wolverines and won the non-district football game, 39-21. The victory ended a losing of streak of 53 games by Southeast Webster-Grand. GMG’s losing streak now reaches 26 games. “They physically beat us on the lines,” GMG coach Kyl Gillespie said. “Our defensive line was way too high all game long. Their offensive line got good push after good push.” The game was close throughout the first half as the Eagles led 7-0 after one quarter and then held a 19-14 lead at the break. Six more points in the third for the winners made it 26-14 and GMG never got any closer the rest of the way. Sophomore Lansana Mohr led the Wolverines with 178 yards rushing and one touchdown. Austin Vaughn completed two passes for 9 yards and also had two short rushing TDs in the game. Luke Petty had one catch for seven yards to lead the receivers. Brock Fisher also rushed for 88 yards in the loss. “I thought the offense played well tonight,” Gillespie said. “It started off sketchy, but if you score 21 points you should win. We had chances, but we just couldn’t capitalize on the chances we had.”
