Denver 27, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 7

GLADBROOK – Chase Shedenhelm rushed for 155 yards and Braydon Neuendorf ran for 78 more and three short touchdowns as the Denver Cyclones overcame Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s early advantage for a 27-7 victory in Friday’s Week Zero football opener. Denver’s defense limited the host Rebels to just 13 yards on the ground and only 140 yards of total offense. Chase Clark led G-R with 43 yards rushing and also ended the night as the team’s top tackler with 12 total stops. Gladbrook-Reinbeck (0-1) took the early lead with Trevor Trunck’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Colton Dinsdale, but it was all Cyclones from there. Neuendorf scored on runs of 4, 4 and 3 yards to make it 20-7 Denver, and Shedenhelm scored on a 27-yard punt return midway through the fourth quarter for the final tally. Denver outgained the Rebels 366-140 in total offense, though the Rebels had only turnover. Neuendorf finished 8-for-15 passing for 127 yards, while Trunck was 10-for-28 for 127 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Dinsdale finished with five catches for a team-high 58 yards, Logan Koester had three grabs for 44 yards, and Phil Zimmerman added two catches for 25 yards. Gladbrook-Reinbeck goes on the road next Friday night to face Hudson, and Dike-New Hartford visits ‘The Pit’ in Gladbrook on Aug. 31 to close out the Rebels’ non-district schedule.
