Run n’ Gun Reloaded by: Coach Bailey

West Marshall On January 27th the Rebels traveled to State Center to play the Trojans. The Rebels started out well and finished the first quarter with a 19-12 lead. The second quarter was played even with the Rebels taking a 35-29 lead into halftime. The Rebels were able to hit seven three pointers in the first half. The second half was a different story as West Marshall completely dominated as they outscored us 53-17 to take an 82-52 victory. The Rebels could not buy a basket and the Trojans scored at will on the Rebels. We need to learn from this games mistakes and then put it behind us! Emily Dinsdale led the scoring with 14, Jenna Roeding finished with 12, Addi Kickbush 11, Paige Thompson 7, Britney Keller 3, Brittany Shinn 3, and Erin Wentzien 2. Jenna Roeding led us in rebounding with 8, Emily Dinsdale and Addi Kickbush had 6 each, Erin Wentzien 5, Emily Snider 2, Britney Keller 2, Brittany Shinn 2, and Paige Thompson 1. Emily Snider led us in assists with 4. Erin Wentzien came away with 5 steals for the evening. As the score would indicate the Rebels were unable to meet their system goals in this ball game.

North Tama The Rebels didn’t have much time to rest as the next afternoon we traveled to North Tama to take on the Class 1A 10th ranked Redhawks. This was a hard fought physical ballgame (just ask or look at Erin’s eye), that the Rebels were able to win by the score of 72-69. I thought the girls responded well and showed get character after the tough loss the night before. On the down side in this game senior Paige Thompson went down with a knee injury. We hope to get Paige back, but until then the Rebels, just like they did when Emily Stoakes went down with an injury, will have to make adjustments and really pull together!! Paige led all scorers with 20 points, Emily Snider finished with 19, with three big 3 pointers in the fourth quarter. Addi Kickbush finished with 9, Emily Dinsdale 9, Jenna Roeding 5, Brittany Shinn 4, Erin Wentzien 3, Rachel Bown 2 (clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter), and Taylor Flamme 1. The Rebels did a much better job on the boards as they pulled down 16 offensive rebounds and 17 defensive rebounds in this game. Brittany Shinn pulled down 6 rebounds, Paige Thompson 5, Emily Dinsdale 4, Jenna Roeding 4, Britney Keller 4, Rachel Bown 3, Addi Kickbush 3, Taylor Flamme 1, Erin Wentzien 1, and Emily Snider 1. Jenna Roeding did a nice job on the back end of our press as she came up with 5 steals. The Rebels met two system goals by turning the Redhawks over 42 (30) times and getting up 35 (35) 3’s. We were just short of our shots up goal as we finished with 78 (80).

Talk about one tough week of basketball! The Rebels played four games in five days last week, with the last three being played on consecutive nights. The Rebels won two and lost two. Even in the losses the Rebels showed great heart, they worked their tails off, and they played as one. A coach cannot ask for more than these young ladies are giving!

South Tama This game was very competitive and much closer than the final score indicated. South Tama won by the score of 77-60, but the Rebels gave them all they wanted. The Rebels up-tempo style had the Trojans tired on several occasions but we just could not put together a run to take advantage. Emily Snider finished with 23 points, Jenna Roeding had 18, Addi Kickbush 10, Emily Dinsdale 5, Brittany Shinn 3, and Rachel Bowen 1. Jenna pulled down 8 rebounds, Emily Dinsdale 6, Brittany Shinn 5, Addi Kickbush 4, Rachel Bown 3, Britney Keller 3, Taylor Flamme 3, and Emily Snider 2.

Grundy Center On Thursday evening the Spartans came to town and went home with a 75-66 win. Again the Rebels played tough and were in this game. We were within two points late in the fourth quarter but just could not get the lead. Emily Snider again led us in scoring with 20 points. Jenna Roeding hit for 17, Addi Kickbush 16, Erin Wentzien 5, Emily Dinsdale 4, Britney Keller 2, and Taylor Flamme 2. Jenna Roeding, Emily Dinsdale, and Taylor Flamme le in rebounding with 10, 9, and 6. Addi Kickbush handed out 5 assists and had 4 steals in the game.

East Marshall The following evening the Mustangs came to town. They had beaten us at their place earlier in the season by the score of 84-82, so we new we had to play well. The Rebels were able to build a 33-24 lead by halftime. The Rebels put up 27 points in the third quarter to take a 20-point lead, and cruised to a 84-58 win. The Rebels hit 15 3’s for the game, which set a new school record in that category. Six different Rebels scored from long range led by Emily Dinsdale with 5, Addi Kickbush 3, Erin Wentzien 3, Jenna Roeding 2, Emily Snider 2, and Rachel Bowen 1. Five players scored in double figures with Emily Snider scoring 18, Addi Kickbush 17, Emily Dinsdale 16, Jenna Roeding 16, Erin Wentzien 10, Rachel Bowen 3, Taylor Flamme 3, and Britney Keller 1. Jenna led on the boards with 8, Taylor Flamme 4, Rachel Bown 4, Britney Keller 3, Emily Dinsdale 3, Erin Wentzien 2, and Addi Kickbush 2. Addi and Emily Snider picked the Mustangs pockets with 6 and 5 steals for the game.

GMG The last game of the week saw the Wolverines come to Reinbeck on Saturday night. The Rebels had too much firepower for the Wolverines and won this one by the score of 105-39. I thought the Wolverines did some nice things defensively to slow us up and they played hard for the entire game. Addi Kickbush and Jenna Roeding had career nights in scoring as Addi finished with 35 points and Jenna 24. Emily Snider again had a nice offensive night with 18, Emily Dinsdale scored 9, Rachel Bown 7, Erin Wentzien 6, Brittany Shinn 4, and Taylor Flamme 2. Jenna Roeding was all over the boards with 11 rebounds, Emily Dinsdale had 7, Brittany Shinn 5, Erin Wentzien 4, Britney Keller 3, Taylor Flamme 3, Addi Kickbush 2, Rachel Bowen 2, Emily Snider 1, and Nicole Adair 1. Emily Snider finished with 5 steals, Addi Kickbush 4, Jenna Roeding 4, Brittany Shinn 4, Rachel Bowen 3, Erin Wentzien 2, Taylor Flamme 2, and Brittany Keller 2.
