October buzzed on by like all the rest of the year. We started out with Char Manlick doing nails at 1 PM, bingo at 2 PM and bible study at 6 PM. That was a busy day.

Kathryn Moritz celebrated her birthday on the 4th with cake and ice cream at the noon meal. Happy Birthday Kathryn and many more.

On the 8th Pastor Campbell and Chris Olds from the Cedar Valley Hospice gave a talk and showed a DVD on hospice and then entertained us with music. Chris sang and Pastor Mike played the keyboard. Then he played several songs for us as we sang along. We were pretty good. Coffee, cookies and ice cream was served. Thanks Norma Wilson for the cookies.

Barb Winterroth brought us a couple of baskets of apples. Everyone enjoyed them. Thanks Barb!

The week of the 11th was full of birthdays and anniversaries. Helen Anderson and Mae Jean Hoeppner birthdays and Ray & Marlys Boege celebrated an anniversary. Helen brought treats for everyone on Friday. Thanks Helen!

On Sunday afternoon Mae Jean had a party in the dining room and there was a good crowd for this. That was fun Mae Jean. Thank you. At noon Ray & Marlys treated everyone with cake and ice cream. Happy 61st anniversary.

On the 15th several of us traveled to Barn Happy and then checked out Wal-Mart to shop, this is always fun.

We are still playing cards at 1:30 PM on Tuesdays and 2:30 PM on Fridays. Come and join us and plus with all of our parties around here we are still doing our exercises three times a week.

The 16th we were going to check out Tonys in Waterloo but everyone had so much to do that day and were tired so we will do that another time.

Connie’s birthday was on the 20th. She treated everyone to muffins for their coffee break in the morning. Dec Wical made signs all over the dining room saying “Sweet 16” but it is probably more like “39 again.” Ha ha. Happy Birthday Connie.

I would like to thank everyone that participated in our Pumpkin Pin Up program for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A big thank you to Mae Jean Hoeppner for cleaning up our garden; we are about ready for next spring. Now is that wishful thinking or what.

The Book Club met on the 21st with two sessions, one at 4 PM and the other at 7 PM. If you like to read you are certainly welcome to join this group on Nov. 18 for the next meeting.

The 22nd we were going to take a ride around the countryside to see the pretty leaves but it was cold and rainy so we decided to stay in. The prettiest leaves that I saw this year were right here in good old Reinbeck, Iowa. All you had to do was drive up Blackhawk Street and down Broad Street. They were awesome.

Donald Schildroth’s 90th birthday was celebrated in our dining room on the 25th. His family had an open house for him. What a fun celebration. Happy Birthday, Don.

We traveled to Wellsburg for our Night on the Town. We had 20 people attend this and what a fun bunch. I want to thank Charlene Manlick, Marlys Karkosh and Connie Thede for being my extra drivers.

Also thanks to Gary & Marlys Karkosh as fifteen Westview people attended the Lions Club Dinner at the Memorial Building.

The gals from LSB couldn’t make it for Bunco this month so after our big meal at Wellsburg the night before and our noon meal from the Corner Cafe we decided we had better do exercises.

On the 29th we had our Halloween party and what a blast. Some of the people came in costume and what a surprise that was. Coach Ed Nelson and friends came and entertained us, then we played a couple of games. Ice cream roll with hot fudge, meat, cheese and crackers and punch and coffee was served. Candy and lottery tickets were prizes.

Florence Schildroth’s birthday was Oct. 30th. Mel Schildroth, Kevin & Jodi Michaels surprised her at morning coffee and brought treats for us and Janet Schildroth had brought coffee cake earlier in the week for us. Happy Birthday Florence.

Lavina Rohach is enjoying having her daughter visit if only it wasn’t for medical reasons.

Marrietta Greve enjoyed visitors here for her granddaughters wedding.

We have also had some sad times here at Westview this month and our sincere sympathy goes out to the families of Leon Sienknecht who passed away on Oct. 5, Bill Koch on Oct. 20 and Vera Flathers (Christies grandmother) who just recently moved to the Western Home in Cedar Falls and passed away on Oct. 23. We miss all of these people very much.

Guess I better close for this time. November will probably be just as busy.
