Sarah Draffen was initiated into the University of Northern Iowa Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society on Sunday, April 28. Dean Nelson, 72, Traer, died May 14 at Covenant Medical Center. Marvin Sternhagen, 62, died on May 11, at Covenant. Fox Ridge Winery is now open in Traer.. 20 YEARS AGO May 18, 2000 G-R Graduation to be held May 21 with 58 members of the class graduating. Sue Hayek celebrates 25th anniversary at 4th grade camp. Christine Weissenfluh G-R 8th grader has been selected as a member of the US People to People Soccer Team to play in Holland. Robert Breeknan, who was adopted as a baby, has been searching for his siblings and after 62 years he is united with his birth mother, Gertrude Kinsinger. A retirement open house was held for Gary Mitchell on June 1. 40 YEARS AGO June 5, 1980 For many weeks this part of Iowa has been suffering from a near drought. Our farmers have prayed for rain and now on May 24, more than eight inches of rain have fallen. Steve Bowen placed 6th in the 400 meter hurdles at the Boys State Track Meet in Des Moines with a time of 56.83 seconds. Steve set a new school record with this time. Funeral services for Clayton Cramer, Reinbeck, were held Monday, June 2. Funeral services for Hulda Adelmund, 77, Reinbeck, were held on June 2. 50 YEARS AGO June 4, 1970 Mr and Mrs Ralph Ohrt observed their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14. Wm. Adair, 83, died May 28 at Parkview Manor. Henry Bern, 84, died at his home in Reinbeck on May 30. Mr and Mrs Bill Bowen are parents of a son born May 29. Glen Ericksen, 51, Dike suffered a heart attack on May 28. Leisa Gill, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Gill of Hudson won the Teenage Miss Majorette of Iowa Title this week.
