Students encouraged to apply for health care scholarships
GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation is in its tenth year of awarding Health Care Career Scholarships to students who are enrolled in a health care program. Students who graduated from high school or currently reside in the GCMH service area of Butler, Grundy, Hardin, and Tama counties are eligible to apply by May 31, 2016. Health care programs eligible for the scholarships include nursing, laboratory sciences, radiology sciences, ultrasound technology, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy, dietetics, and emergency medical services (paramedic).
“The GCMH Foundation believes that supporting our local health care students is an important investment in our communities. Over the past ten years, the Foundation has awarded 59 health care career scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1,500,” remarks Erin Schildroth, Community Outreach Coordinator. “Thanks to the support of generous individuals, this support will continue. We encourage all local students who are currently enrolled in their health care program to apply.”
The scholarships are made available through the generosity of Sara Lee Yoder, who provided funds to the hospital upon her death in 2008, and by the family of Don Kliebenstein, longtime Grundy County attorney who served on the hospital Foundation board, as well as by Irene Stout, a former Foundation board member. In addition, the GCMH Foundation sponsors a Scholarship Luncheon and Card Party each year to raise funds for the scholarship account. This year’s event takes place on Thursday, April 21 at the Oakleaf Golf Course, rural Reinbeck, and is open to the public. Reservations may be made by contacting Schildroth at 319-824-4147.
