Hot Cocoa/Coffee in High School Library By: Kelly Brockett

On December 2, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School began offering hot cocoa and flavored coffee in the school library to the students for only $1 a cup. The little cafe is open between 8:00 a.m. and 8:20 a.m., right before the start of school. Mr. Aden, high school principal, approached Mrs. Ehlers, media center specialist, with the idea to start this cafe, and Mrs. Ehlers has done much of the coordinating. “We both want to promote a place for students to go in the morning to be able to study, have quieter conversations, relax, and of course be able to utilize the wonderful library facility we have,” said Ehlers. “Many students don’t get the opportunity to use the library if they don’t have an English class, so having the library open before school just made sense.” The funds from the cafe will go towards buying more library materials, especially ebooks, which tend to be expensive. Ehlers hopes that she will be able to keep the cafe operational every day for the rest of the school year.
