Hawkeye Community College fall graduation set Dec. 18

WATERLOO-The 2014 Fall Graduation Ceremony for Hawkeye Community College is scheduled for Thursday, December 18, at 6:30 p.m. in Hawse Auditorium in Tama Hall on the main campus. Students who have completed certificates, diplomas, or degrees in the 2014 Fall Semester will be recognized.

The keynote speaker is Catharine Freeman, dean of communications, early childhood, education, fine arts, and humanities, and the 2013 recipient of Hawkeye’s Outstanding Service Award for Faculty. She has taught at Hawkeye since 2002 and helped grow the Education Transfer program from three course offerings to more than 10 currently, including a coaching endorsement. She is known for taking a personal interest in the success of her students, advising the Education Club, devoting time to mentoring, and coordinating service learning projects. Freeman has worked to understand the individual needs of students, creating evening courses and in education and early childhood education and coordinating high school and transfer institution partnerships. She is a member numerous committees promoting leadership and college advancement, including the STEM Task Force, Leader in Me Task Force, and Assessment Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history education from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in education from Viterbo University, and has completed coursework for her doctorate in organizational leadership.

Family and friends who are unable to attend the graduation ceremony can watch live online by going to www.hawkeyecollege.edu/go/graduation. It will also broadcast live on the Hawkeye Cable Channel the night of the ceremony.
