G-R Internship By: Kelly Brockett

Brady Kuehl, a senior at G-R High School, has experienced a unique internship opportunity this trimester. He has been interning at the Cedar Falls branch of Clapsaddle-Garber Associates, a civil engineering and land surveying firm based in Marshalltown. Kuehl spent an hour or two every day of first trimester following around the surveyors and engineers of the firm. He has an interest in engineering, and this has been a chance to see what it is really like. Engineering is “a little different” than Kuehl expected, “but very interesting.” A couple of the most interesting things he did was seeing how concrete is tested for the amount of air and water in it before it can be poured, and working with an inspector. In Marshalltown, one of the designers showed him all the different projects the firm has worked on there, including the new Marshalltown hospital. Kuehl also “liked being able to see several different areas of engineering.” “This has been an awesome opportunity and I’m glad our high school provides it,” said Kuehl. He plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology in the fall, and major in aerospace engineering.
