International Dot Day in 4-B

For International Dot Day on September 15, 2014, Mrs. Bailey’s Fourth Grade Class did a lot of different things. Mrs. Bailey read us The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We decorated CD’s and completed dot-to-dots. We tried pointillism, a technique by Georges Seurat, with Q-tips. We learned about Braille and Morse Code – dots which were created to help people. We played Pipeline, a game of strategy. We did a squiggle drawing from three dots. We also made a picture of how we would make our mark on the world. Mrs. Bailey gave us dots to eat also. We had fun celebrating International Dot Day.

International Dot Day in 4-B

International Dot Day was celebrated on September 15, 2014, in 4-B at Reinbeck Elementary School. We learned a lot about Dot Day and had fun doing it.

First we designed CD’s – which are really large dots. Next we painted little dots with Q-tips. This is a kind of art called pointillism created by artist George Seurat. Then we did a dot-to-dot. First we did the normal 1-2-3 dot-to-dot, but we did another. It was with pictures in A-B-C odder. We made a picture out of three dots, which was really fun. We played Pipeline, a connect the dots strategy game. Later, we ate the cane dots.

What we learned about Dot Day is to make your mark on the world. Two people that made their mark on the world are Samuel F.B. Morse, who created the Morse Code, and Louis Braille, who created Braille so that blind people could read.

International Dot Day was fun and interesting all at the same time.
