Election day registration for general election on Nov. 8

Iowa law allows you to register to vote on Election Day at the polling place for the precinct in which you currently live. However, this procedure may slow up the voting experience for voters choosing to wait until November 8 to register and vote at the polling site. The voter must prove both who he is and where he lives when he is using Election Day Registration. The best way to do this is with your valid Iowa driver’s license with your current address printed on it. If you do not have an Iowa driver’s license, you may use a photo ID that is current, valid, and contains an expiration date.

To make the voting experience easier and less time consuming on November 8, County Auditor Rhonda R. Deters recommends that you pre-register to vote with her office by the October 29, 2016, 5:00 PM deadline. By pre-registering, your name will appear on the election register at your polling site, and you will avoid the process required for Election Day Registration.

You can register in person at the County Auditor’s Office at the Courthouse or voter registration forms are available on the Grundy County website, www.grundycounty.org. Click on “Where do I. . . .?” and then click on “Register to Vote”. You may then complete the Official Voter Registration Form. The completed forms should be delivered or mailed to the Grundy County Auditor, 706 G Ave., Grundy Center, IA 50638-1496. Mailed registrations must be postmarked on or before October 24.
