Rhonda R. Deters announces that she has submitted her nomination petition for the Republican Candidate for Grundy County Auditor. Deters was appointed to the office of County Auditor on July 1, 2011, following the resignation of Mary L. Schmidt and was elected to the office of County Auditor on November 6, 2012. She is a life-long resident of Grundy County and lives on her family’s Century Farm near Wellsburg. She has been married to Terry Deters, a farmer, for over 30 years, and they have two adult sons.

During her tenure as auditor, Deters has implemented the use of electronic poll books at the polling locations in Grundy County. This process assists the precinct election officials in their duties on Election Day to assure that each voter is properly registered and is eligible to vote. She will add the use of bar code scanners in future elections to further enhance the voting experience in Grundy County. In addition, the auditor’s office in Grundy County was designated as a Passport Acceptance Facility late in 2012. This service was not available anywhere within the county when the County Recorder could no longer issue passports. Deter is one of three trained passport acceptance agents in her office.

Deters is currently serving as the Vice President of the Iowa State Association of County Auditors. She is also one of eight auditors appointed by the Iowa Secretary of State to an advisory committee to review issues in connection with elections and other Secretary of State activities. She completed training and became certified as a State Election Administrator on April 18, 2013. She also serves on the Voter Verification Committee for the state auditor’s association.

Deters states that she enjoys all aspects of her work as County Auditor. She strives to do her best every day for all of the citizens of the county and to work with all county departments to achieve the best outcomes for Grundy County. She is dedicated to continuing to provide efficient and courteous service to the citizens of Grundy County.
