Welcome to Winter

A Welcome to Winter event promoting cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking for winter enjoyment will be held Sunday, December 6, 1:30 4:00 p.m. at Hartman Reserve Nature Center, sponsored by the Cedar Trails Partnership. Persons of all ages, levels of fitness, and winter sport experience are encouraged to attend.

A resource fair will occur throughout the event, with local retailers and organizations providing information about equipment and clothing, local trails, etiquette, and other resources for enjoying the outdoors throughout winter. Presentations will be given on cross country skiing at 1:30 p.m., on snowshoeing at 2:15 p.m., and on fat biking at 3:00 p.m. Guided trail tours will be offered at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Drawings will be held for free snowshoe and cross country ski rentals and refreshments will be provided. Local businesses and agencies participating in the event include Bike Tech, CrawDaddy Outdoors, Europa Cycle and Ski, George Wyth State Park, Hartman Reserve Nature Center, The Runner’s Flat, UNI Outdoor Recreation and Waterloo Leisure Services.
