Snow competes in Ironman Triathlon
On Sunday, September 27, 2015, Kim Snow, a former class of ’92 GRHS student/athlete & daughter of Dean & Penny Snow of Reinbeck, competed in a full distance Ironman Triathlon in Chattanooga, Tenn. The endurance race consisted of a 2.4 mile river swim, a 116 mile bike (4 miles longer than a normal Iron distance for logistical reasons), followed by a 26.2 mile run, totaling 144.6 miles. Kim completed the swim in 1:14, the bike in 6:18 & the marathon in 5:18 for an overall time of 13:07.58.
When asked after the race what she thought of the experience, Kim replied, “It was the most painfully amazing experience I’ve ever had!…Definitely a tough mental, emotional & physical challenge; fortunately everything from my training to my nutrition & my physical/mental state just clicked, so it couldn’t have turned out any better for me. To have the support of my mom and dad in person and everyone from back home in Iowa and from St. Pete that followed me via tracking or social media, made it that much more special.”
Kim, who currently resides in St. Petersburg, Fla., is a member of Outspokin Multisport Team. The group consists of over 200 triathletes ranging from, beginner to professional. For the 2016 season, Kim plans on participating in St. Anthony’s Olympic Triathlon, 1-2 Ironman 70.3’s and possibly another full distance Ironman.
