Judges distill entries

Phil Dicks of Grundy Center won first place and a $500 cash award in the Best Templeton Rye Appetizer competition, judged Friday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Rebecca Howe of Des Moines earned second place and $300. Lisa Alessandro of Winterset claimed third place and $200.

Judges also awarded honorable mention to Bridget Lottman of Norwalk.

Contestants were challenged to create a blue ribbon worthy appetizer using Templeton Rye as the main ingredient.

Entries were judged on best taste.
