The Grundy County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed April 2015 as National County Government Month. National County Government Month is an annual celebration of county government. County government provides many services to the citizens of the county. From the beginnings of government in this country, it has been said that government closet to the people is the one that governs best. The Board of Supervisors is the executive and legislative branch of county government and acts as the general business manager for the county. Its duties are varied, and its authority embraces practically every aspect of county government.

In Grundy County, there are five supervisors, each elected for a four-year term from a separate district to represent the best interests of the people in that district as well as the county as a whole. Three supervisors are elected in presidential election years, and two are elected in gubernatorial election years. Meetings are held each Monday at 9:00 a.m. Additional meetings may be called by the Chairperson of the Board. All meetings are open to the public, and an agenda listing all business to be considered at the meeting is posted at the courthouse, on the county’s website (www.grundycounty.org), and on the county’s Facebook page at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. The minutes of the meetings are published in the three county newspapers and are posted on the county’s website.
