House fire

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 2:01 p.m., the Conrad and Beaman Fire Depts were dispatched to 514 Oak Street, Conrad, for a house fire.

Firemen arrived to find flames coming from the living room windows. Conrad Fire requested ‘mutual aid’ from Grundy Center Fire.

Home owners Larry and Connie Stanley were not at home at the time of the fire but son-in-law and daughter Sean and Lisa Fleming, along with their 3 children Damien, age 7, Draven, age 7 and Pieper, age 4, were. The relatives were in the basement of the home and were able to escape through a basement window. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary damage estimates were $30,000 to $40,000.

The Red Cross was called to assist the families and the State Fire Marshall’s office was asked to investigate the cause of the fire.

Other agencies assisting were: B-Certs (Beaman- Conrad Emergency Response Team) 1st Responders and MMSC (Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center) paramedics.

Incident remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
