Grundy County Development Alliance welcomes Sleepy Creek Tannery & Fur dressing to Wellsburg

The Grundy County Development Alliance held a ribbon cutting for Wellsburg’s newest business Sleepy Creek Tannery & Fur Dressing (209 N. Adams St.) on Tuesday, June 12 as part of the annual town celebration, Wellsburg Daze.

Owner Ben Deters will custom tan hides for a wide variety of customers from around the Midwest and beyond he currently has clients as far away as Washington State. He also has tanned hides, hats and other articles of clothing for sale. Sleepy Creek is one of less than a handful of tanneries in the state of Iowa. His business prepares the hides for taxidermists, fur traders, and hunting and trapping enthusiasts.
