Trinkets & Togs thrift store to open later this summer

Clark Wilharm, Executive Director of The Larrabee Center, Inc. (TLC) announces that the Waverly-based agency will soon be opening Trinkets & Togs thrift store at 1609 G Avenue, Hwy 14 & 175 West in Grundy Center.

Trinkets & Togs opened in Waverly in 1995 as a fund raiser to support TLC’s mission to assist people with disabilities and the elderly to become and remain valued members of the community. The venture has been very successful, providing a win-win situation for area residents who can donate their good quality items and also bargain shop for housewares, clothing, antiques and furniture. According to Linda Hughes, Program Director, the Waverly Thrift Store moves about 1,000 items per day through its 8,000 sq. ft. store. Hughes says, “The thrift store has been a huge asset to the Waverly community, but the most rewarding aspect is it gives people with disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and earn a paycheck when they receive vocational training.”

Trinkets and Togs will start accepting donations at its Grundy Center location by the end of June, and be open for business later this summer. Plans are to start with the retail component and build in services for people with disabilities and the elderly.
