The third annual Cherish the Child Walk to Remember will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012. The event is held to provide an opportunity for family and friends to honor the memory of children who have died at any age, from miscarriage to adulthood. This year’s event will include the memory walk, a free picnic supper and service of remembrance with balloon release.

The Service of Remembrance is an especially meaningful experience for attendees. Guest speakers include the parents and siblings of those whose memories we honor. Speakers will be sharing not only a tribute to their loved one, but also a word of hope and encouragement about what has helped them in their season of loss and grief. Music will be provided by Pastor Mike Campbell of First Presbyterian Churches of Reinbeck and Grundy Center.

Rhonda Sternhagen of Grundy Center has created a Cherish the Child logo window cling that will be for sale the evening of the event. Window clings are suitable for automobiles and will sell at the time of check-in.

Those attending should gather at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, 509 4th Street, Grundy Center beginning at 5:30. The walk (approximately 7 blocks) will begin at 6:00 p.m. with picnic supper to follow. The Service of Remembrance will begin about 7:00 p.m. In the event of severe weather, the picnic supper and Service of Remembrance will move to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 315 G Ave., Grundy Center, across the street from the funeral home.
