Child advocates needed in Grundy County

The Child Advocacy Board is seeking volunteers in Grundy County to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA’s). On any given day in Iowa, over 5,000 children are in foster care. Their ages range from a few hours to the majority age of 18 years. Situations also vary, from neglected or abused children to children who have special needs. But all have in common the need for stability and the right to permanency.

CASA volunteers advocate on behalf of the children only and they provide a voice for the child in Juvenile Court. Volunteer advocates will receive 30 hours of training to learn about the child welfare system in Iowa, and the CASA roles of investigator, reporter and monitor.

These children can’t live safely with their own families because of abuse, neglect or other serious family issues, so a CASA is needed to advocate for their best interest and to serve as the eyes and ears for the court.
