Garwin Roughriders 4-H Club – Join Them!

Frisbee Golf in the Garwin Park

4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research-based experiences. And you will find that and more in the Garwin Roughriders 4-H Club! Garwin Roughriders 4-H Club are open to all youth in grades Kindergarten-12th. You don’t need to live on a farm to join them! Youth who are interested in learning more about food & nutrition, sewing, photography, painting as well as cattle, swine and sheep are members of this club. Garwin Roughriders meet monthly on the first Sunday of the month at the Chapel Church United Methodist Church, Gladbrook (check with the club on their schedule of events and meetings). The meetings are organized by club leader Ann Jackson. The members are responsible for running the business meetings and take turns in giving educational presentations each meeting. Parents are needed throughout the year to help. 4-H is a family event. The club plans many activities throughout the year. These activities focus on the 4 H’s of 4-H: Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Examples are their volunteering to collect items for the Veteran’s Home and participating in the Angel Tree project, planting flowers in Garwin, hayrack rides, working together for the Tama County Fair and more. In the past, the Garwin Roughriders have worked hard to put together Frisbee golf for the Garwin Park. For more information about this and other 4-H opportunities, contact the Tama County Extension and Outreach Office at 641-484-2703 or jhulme@iastate.edu.
