November Is We Are Thankful Month

Thanksgiving Worship Service We will be having our annual Thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m. Salem Church is in charge of the service. Everyone is welcome to attend. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service. Hope to see you then!

Armistice Day was first cele-brated on November 11,1919. It was the one-year anniver-sary of the end of World War 1. (Major hostilities formally end-ed at the 11th hour of the11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the armistice with Ger-many went into effect.) The U.S. originally observed Armi-stice Day with a congressional act that was approved on May 13, 1938 that made November 11 a legal holiday The name was changed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

VETERAN’S DAY TRIVIA There are more than 21 million veter-ans in the U.S. today. California is the state with the most vet-eran’s, more than two million followed by Texas and Florida, each with more than 1.6 million. The tomb of the unknown soldier is lo-cated in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. The tomb has remains of soldiers from World Wars I and II and the Korean War. It is guarded 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and in all types of weather. Volunteers from the elite 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment guard the tomb. The guard is changed every hour on the hour from October 1 to March 31, and every half hour from April 1 through September 30. Flags do not fly half-staff on Veteran’s Day since it is a day of celebrating those who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces.

NOVEMBER IS WE ARE THANKFUL MONTH Have you noticed all the cute pumpkins out-side on the patio? We’d like to thank the 4-H kids for coming up and decorating them for us. We really appreciate it. Thanks for thinking of us. We want to thank Tyler Heitmeyer for carving pumpkins for us. He does such a good job. We appreciate him do-ing that for us. And guess who had to clean all the insides out? Not me!! Thanks Tyler! If you are bringing in items, please ensure they are labeled or ask staff to label for you. We have a lot of unclaimed clothing in the laundry department. If you feel you are missing any items, please let Tammy or Nancy know. They will make sure they are returned to the proper owners. Thank you!! LOST AND FOUND We would like to thank several people for all the tomatoes that were brought in for us to enjoy. Thank you to Katie Grimmus, Phil Koester, and Nathan Wrage. It was very much appreciated by everyone!

Did you know? Did you know that tomatoes are very high in fiber. They are also a good source of several vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C, potassium, vitamin k, and folate to name a few. That’s good to know.

Customer Service Superstar–Joy Weeks

Newsletter email Superstars of customer service enhance the customer experience for our residents, family mem-bers and visitors’ day in and day out. They take great service up 10 notches and knock the ball out of the park on every interaction they have. We are very lucky and honored to be able to showcase one of those superstars to you, Joy Weeks! Joy, you were nominated by your peer, Judy Rysdam. She states, “I nominate Joy because she has a sweet smelling aroma that reflects Jesus living in her. Working with her is a joy because she helps the aides with answering call lights and with folding pads and peri-clothes. She works with you when you are making rounds instead of going to a different room, she stays with you.” Kelly Larson, Administrator states “Joy is always mentioning to me every chance she gets that she really likes it at WBA. I have heard several co-workers state that she enjoys helping out when she can. We are very happy to have Joy as a pivotal part of our 10p-6a crew. Thank you for all that you do for our residents and staff.” Joy, we commend you for your passion and dedication to Westbrook Acres. We are very proud to have you as a part of the team!! Keep up the good work!

A note from the Administrator: Welcome FALL! This is a very sad time for us as we had to out our patio furniture away for the year. The days are getting shorter, the nights colder…but what beautiful colors right now! With the holidays soon approaching we are always looking for groups, or individuals who would want to Christmas carol through the hallways of Westbrook Acres. If you or any-one else you know may want to do this, please contact Michele/Marilyn here at the facili-ty! We would love to have as many as we can!
