Members of the Gladbrook American Legion, Auxiliary and SAL were present at the maintenance meeting of the Memorial Bldg on Wednesday evening, January 18, 2017. They meet annually to discuss finances, building maintenance needs and how to keep the facility accessible and clean for the communities use. Insurance coverage and electricity remain our biggest expense along with the need to replace an air conditioner compressor this summer. The Legion pays $200 each month, the Auxiliary $100 and the SAL $50 to pay these bills as well as two fund-raising dinners. The Memorial Day dinner and the Ham Ball Dinner in the fall help with expenses. We appreciate the support of the community at these dinners as well as rentals for receptions, 4-H and organization projects, birthday parties and graduations. Old Business: SAL reports successful fish fries and have placed a stainless steel top over the new fryers. The stationary can opener has been replaced on the island counter. Mark also reported the next fish fry would be the first Friday of Feb, March and the last for the summer on Good Friday. New Business: The Legion has just completed replacing the old 4 bulb florescent lighting with 2 bulb LED bulbs in the Legion, Centennial, kitchen, hallways, bar and bathrooms. These are more efficient and much brighter with wattage reduced from 10,400 watts to 2080 watts. Mic system has radio feedback and we will look into a wireless system or something. New Outside doors on east are needed. Discussion on building not unlocked for rentals. Joyce Swangel will continue to take care of reservations with a note on contracts with 3 cell numbers to call if folks want to get in, as a reminder to have it open. Otherwise the building will remain locked with all those who use it to be responsible to relock it when they leave. Joyce may give you a key to return if you want.
