Gladbrook Auxiliary
January found the Gladbrook Legion hosting their annual appreciation soup supper for the Auxiliary, SAL, volunteer fire departments and G-L ambulance service on Tuesday, January 17 at 6:30pm. Since Mother Nature’s Sunday ice blizzard postponed the evening to this Tuesday, a large group attended to enjoy the oyster stew and chili. Prayer was offered by Joyce Swangel, Aux chaplain and after the meal, those able to stay, were able to listen to Kay Lowry give her Legislative report. The Legion members added many comments and questions while she asked what should be the highest priority programs for our new Congress, making for an interesting program. We then reconvened to our separate business meetings. President Jeanne opened the Auxiliary meeting with the Pledge to our Flag as we dispensed with the reading of the minutes. Treasurer Karen was unable to attend, but Jeanne reported on the balance In our account The Legion with Alliant Energy has replaced the ballasts and bulbs in the Memorial Building light fixtures with LED bulbs making for energy efficiency and brighter lighting throughout the kitchen, hallway and meeting rooms. The building was dedicated in 1989 and we need to keep updating the facility as possible. Gladbrook met their membership goal of 246 by December 31st as we welcomed Candice Bartel, Dinny Nielsen, Floriss Stamp, Jane Jordebrek, Mildred Vajgrt, Frances Bacon, Deborah Landt, Amanda and Mary Emke. Penny Gealewski and Roleen Havern as transfer members. Welcome. We have been asked to participate in a special soup tasting luncheon for the residents at the IVH in the LRC room on Saturday, Jan 21, 11am. We hope to be able to help another time. A list of possible questions for students to vote on at Tama County Government Day was discussed with interesting reactions.
