Garwin Roughriders

December 11, 2016 The regular meeting of the Garwin Roughriders was held on December 11, 2016 at Chapel Church. Historian Hallie Claussen called the meeting to order at 12:30. The pledge of allegiance was led by Stephenie Claussen. Roll call was taken with the question “What is your favorite winter sport?” There were 9 members were present and 6 parents. Grace Schewe read the minutes from the previous meeting. Frances motioned to approve the minutes. Motion seconded and approved. Frances Jackson read the treasurer’s report with a balance of $887.75. Stephenie motioned to approve the treasure’s report. Motion seconded and approved. Old Business We talked about the Pioneer Seed Grant. The deadline to apply is Jan.27, 2017. An idea for community improvement is to install disk golf at the city park in Garwin. It was decided that a committee of Frances Jackson, Stephenie Claussen and Angel Schewe will attend the Garwin City Council meeting on Jan.3, 2017. They will request permission for our club to install disk golf at the main city park and if approved by the council, we can move forward with applying for the grant. New Business New members received their 4H membership cards. Leader, Ann Jackson informed our club that we received a $25 Casey’s gift card for participating in the photo scavenger hunt this year. The Winter Carnival is January 28, 2017 at the Toledo Reinig Center from 5:30-7:00. Our club is responsible for providing bars, hamburger and hot dog buns. We also discussed what game we will bring. Wyatt Jackson led the 4H pledge and the meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m. After the meeting, members exchanged Christmas gifts and enjoyed snacks. The next meeting will be an ice skating party. Sunday January 8, 2017Members of the Garwin Roughriders met at the Ames Ice Arena on January 8, 2017. There were 9 members present and 5 parents. We had 2 hours of fun and skating. Afterwards we had a brief meeting. Old business: Frances and Angel gave a report on their presentation to the Garwin City Council on Jan 3, 2017. The Council liked the idea of installing disk golf baskets at the city park in Garwin. After hearing the presentation on the location of the baskets, the approximate cost, and who will help the club with installation, they gave the Roughriders the “o.k.” to apply for the matching grant from Pioneer Seed Co. Frances volunteered to go to the Garwin Lion’s club meeting on Jan. 12, 2017 and ask for a donation. The next meeting will be on February 5, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Church.
