Garwin Roughriders

The second regular meeting of the Garwin Roughriders was held on November 6, 2016 at Chapel Church. Vice president Lindsey Slifer called the meeting to order at 12:30. The pledge of allegiance was led by Rachael Slifer. Roll call was taken with the question “What is your favorite sport?” There were 12 members present and 6 parents. Grace Schewe read the minutes from the previous meeting. Wyatt motioned to approve the minutes. Motion seconded and carried. Frances Jackson read the treasurer’s report, with the balance of $786.85. Hallie Claussen motioned to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion seconded and carried. Old business Hallie checked on a sign to place by the flowers the club plants in Garwin every year. She will continue to look into where to purchase a sign with our club name and what it will cost. There was a Tama County 4-H officers training camp at Otter Creek, with officer’s from all the clubs in Tama County in attendance. Our club officers Jake Hlas, Lindsey Slifer, Hallie Claussen, Frances Jackson and Grace Schewe participated. They learned the duties of their job as an officer. Then they did a team building activity outside using some simple machines. Club leader Ann Jackson reminded those who have not re-enrolled and paid their dues for the coming year to do so. New business Our club will be doing group presentations. The clover kids got to pick an older member to do their presentation with. The club is looking for activities to do as a group. Some of the ideas were ice skating, Sky zone, Dairy tour, Sleepy Hollow sledding, snow shoeing, swimming at the Y and going to a professional sports game. Club leader Ann Jackson told about a grant being offered by the Pioneer Seed Company called “Seed Money”. Civic groups partner with each other for community service projects. Applications will be taken until Jan. 17th, 2017. Premium checks from the Tama County fair were distributed to those who earned them. Stephenie Claussen led the members in the 4-H pledge and the meeting was adjourned at 12:55pm The next meeting will be our Christmas gift exchange December 4, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Church.
