Before Judge Fae Hoover-Grinde in Tama County District Court in Toledo: Joshua Leroy Papesh, 21, Traer, admitted violation of terms of probation on a 3rd degree burglary charge. He was sentenced to a suspended, five-year prison term and a $750 fine was also suspended. Papesh was placed on probation for three years and directed to reside at the Gerald Hinzman Center or Lary Nelson Center for up to 365 days. Papesh admitted, according to a probation complaint, to violations including drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and an arrest for driving while license suspended or revoked. He was originally charged with burglary on Dec. 6, 2013, by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office. Douglas Eugene Stevenson, 46, entered a written guilty plea to conspiracy to commit an aggravated misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 90 days in the Tama County Jail and fined and assessed court costs totaling $1,001. He was also directed to pay his share of $574 restitution to Bonnie Bergason, Ottumwa. Stevenson was originally charged with forgery and conspiracy for his part in signing for purchases on a credit card made at the Meskwaki Bingo • Casino • Hotel on Jan. 11. The charges were filed by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Shawn Dahlin.


Before Judge Patrick R. Grady: Ashley Marie Thompson, 28, rural Tama, admitted violation of terms of probation. The application for revocation of probation was not granted by the court biut Thompson was directed to reside at the Marshalltown Residential Facility fro up to 365 days. The Department of Correctional Services violation report alleged Thompson did not live at an approved address, did not make payments for probation supervisory fee, didn’t make contact or schduled appointments with her probation officer, drank alcohol and was fired from her job for being late on too many occasions. Thompson was originally sentenced on Aug. 13, 2015, on a charge of furnishing or making available controlled substances to inmates. Larry Wayne Sturtz, 71, LeGrand, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of 1st offense drunken driving. He was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Tama County Jail, fined and assessed court scosts totaling $1,861 and ordered to successfully complete a 12-hour drinking driver’s course. Sturtz was originally charged with 2nd offense drunken driving on Nov. 6, 2015, at Tama County Roads E49 and F Avenue by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Trevor J. Killian.


Before Judge Lars Anderson: Ethan James Erhardt, 19, Traer, entered a written guilty plea to driving while revoked. He was fined and assessed court costs totaling $1,450. Erhardt was charged on Jan. 8 at U.S. Highway 63 and K Avenue by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Casey Schmidt. Jon Robert Harris, 52, rural Chelsea, was sentenced to suspended five-year prison terms on charges of possession of methamphetamine 3rd offense and 2nd degree theft. He was placed on probation for three years and directed to reside at the Nelson Center for up to one year. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. In a plea agreement, seven other chagres were dismissed. Harris was originally charged on March 27, 2015, with the theft of an an aluminum trailer found in his possession by Tama County Sheriff’s Detective Bruce Rhoads. He was charged on Oct. 27, 2015, on the methamphetamine charge by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Lucas Dvorak.
