GRHS Speech By Emilee Pepe
The Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School Speech Team performed on Saturday, February 27, for the opportunity to advance to the state level. The team brought around 24 entries; out of those, fourteen made it state, including Jackson Kiburis, Carley Crozier, Kelly Brockett, Jesse Royer, Emilee Pepe, Waverly Robinett, Brittany Yates, Ashley Sieh, Joe Pepe, Carley Crozier, Waverly Robinett, Morgan Kelly, Sadie Brockett, and Audrey Leyen. The students who made it to state represented nine different categories. Janet Schildroth, who attended the February 27 performances, said, “Excellent performance from all performers. Wonderful to see so many make it on to the state!” The speech team is coached by Val Ehlers, Rachel Keber, and Greg Tessendorf. The state speech competition was held on Saturday, March 12. We had one student make it on to All-State: Kelly Brockett, who advanced in Expository Address. Her address is titled “How to Be a Detective.” Everyone who went seemed to enjoy the experience and chance to be a part of state. We will unfortunately be saying goodbye to so many seniors on the speech team, but those who will be back next year gained experience by performing at state.
