Gladbrook Women’s Club
The Gladbrook Women’s Club met for their regular meeting at Independent Living Thursday, January 14th at 1:30 p.m. President Shirley Young opened the meeting and gave us some history on the Women’s Club which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. She then introduced Beth Wegner, librarian. She told us she grew up in Kansas and moved to the area with her husband. She feels it is important to have a library in your community to provide for kids. She is currently working on a grant. Beth told us about the Christmas Party she held prior to Christmas for kids 2-12 and had 33 kids attend. Other events coming up include National Popcorn Day, Puzzles Day and 1st week of February will be National Storytelling Week. She is currently updating the teen and children’s area and said she would like to have a TV. Currently there are only 2 computers available to the public and don’t offer headphones at this time. She said it is difficult to find space to incorporate all her ideas in the space that is available. Members enjoyed hearing what she has planned for the library. The secretary’s minutes from December were read and approved. The treasurer report was given. Fourteen members were present. Shirley brought up thoughts and suggestions to improve upon for 2016 Holiday Happenings. As the Women’s Club is celebrating their 90th anniversary there will be articles in the N-S telling about the past and what the Women’s Club does for the community. There will be a Spring Tea April 24th at the Memorial Building, watch the N-S for more information. Women’s Club will be sponsoring the Blood Drive January 26th.
