Alpha Study Club
Claire Handorf graciously hosted Alpha’s Christmas gathering on December 8, 2015; Lynn Handorf was our helpful concierge for the afternoon. Curious members brought beautifully wrapped books from their home library collections, not sure what awaited them. The Program Committee quickly stored the gifts beneath a lovely Christmas tree and directed members to find their place cards at the festively decorated tables. The Social Committee served delicate orderves; delicious pork loin and salad; rolls; a variety of beverages; and a decadent dessert. All twenty-four members present savored the delightful meal. With dining finished, the members drew numbers for the Program Committee’s activity. At that point, our challenge was finding where to sit, more easily accomplished when the person with number one was finally matched with chair number one. Our game was the familiar one of choosing a gift, opening it, and then being able to steal one that had been previously opened, the advantage going to the later/higher numbers. Our innate kindness lasted for only five gift selections, and then “polite” stealing began, to the merriment of all. All Alpha members were entertained by the variety of book sizes and subject matter. Our heartfelt thanks to Claire, Mary, Jean, Carol, JoAnne, and Kathy for the wonderful meal and decorations; also, sincerest appreciation to Avriel, Deb, Ranae, Rose, Shirley, and Phyllis for the laughter filled time of fellowship and fun, and a salute to Lynn for his courteous assistance.
