Chapel’s Christian Cowboy Chuck Wagon Celebration

Rodeo clown Lynn Handorf looks mighty forlorn.

Violet and Wyatt Jackson are wearing their new glasses. Brayden Duden was not quite ready for the new look.

On Sunday, October 4, those who entered Chapel Church’s Fellowship Hall were transported back to the Old West. The room was filled with cowboys, cowgirls, sheriffs, deputies, and even a rodeo clown. They lassoed horses, picked up snakes, branded a cow blindfolded, searched for hidden gold nuggets, and made Wanted Posters of each other. The adults played a TV Western Trivia game and did a “shout out” to guess the theme songs from old westerns as the music played. Supper consisted of beef burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, applesauce, spiced peaches, cornbread/honey, apple, peach and cherry cobblers, decorated sugar cookies, cactus juice, lemonade, milk, water and coffee. Although all children won a door prize, one special prize went to Darrel Burt for riding his horse the farthest to get to Chapel – although he pulled his little horse on wheels rather than riding it! All ages participated in a “Dress the Sheriff” relay. After Ron Groth told a cowboy story about training horses, a beautiful campfire was waiting outside. Stories were told, songs were sung, and the youth had fun playing football. A fun evening was had by all. All are invited to try out Chapel on Sundays at 1597 Abbott Ave – two miles west of Gladbrook and four miles south on gravel. Sunday School for ages 3-99 is at 9:30 a.m. and the worship service is at 10:30 a.m., including praise music at the beginning. Pastor Mark Keefer is the pastor.
