Trees Forever tree planting at Union Grove Lake

Trees Forever helped organize a tree planting on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Union Grove Park. This was the 5th phase of planting that we have partnered together on to help build the tree canopy back up after the damage caused by the derecho wind storm in the summer of 2011. I planted with three members of the park staff and two volunteers to plant 22 trees. They included Canaan fir and a mix of shade trees (sugar maple, sycamore, hackberry, American linden, red oak, serviceberry, and swamp white oak). In total since the storm, 127 trees have been added back to the park with funding support from private donations and grants from the Branching Out program, a partnership between Trees Forever and Alliant Energy.
