Gladbrook Women’s Club Beginning their 90th Year

The Gladbrook Women’s Club is celebrating 90 years this year and at the September meeting held last week, it was Mary Jane Schaeferle’s golden anniversary as she joined Women’s Club 50 years ago. Guest speakers were Jay Mathis, G-R’s shared superintendent with Eldora-New Providence and Charles Bearden, they gave us an update on the school. Mathis said both schools receive a $50,000 incentive to share. He gave an update on the dissolution process and the duties of the commission. Bearden gave members an update the Gladbrook committee is pursuing and told how we got to where we are today with no school in Gladbrook. Mathis and Bearden answered questions from members following their presentations. President Shirley Young called the meeting to order held at Independent Living. She reflected on Women’s Club celebrating 90 years. Regular business was conducted. A thank you was read from the Corn Carnival Corp for our participation in the parade where the Women’s Club placed 2nd. An update was given on Holiday Happenings which is to be held November 16th. Tickets are $15. Vice-president Avriel Koester said our October meeting will be held at Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge. Members are asked to meet at Methodist Church at 10:30. Avriel read the August and September birthdays and anniversaries. Lunch was served.
