Garwin High School’s Class of 1965 gathered for its 50th class reunion the weekend of July 31/August 1. The ’65 graduating class of 36 members was the largest in the history of the school at that time. The festivities kicked off Friday evening with a cocktail gathering at the Garwin summer home of Kathleen [Helleso] Malkin. Twenty two classmates and ten guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and drinks while reminiscing and listening to 60’s music. The next day, classmates arrived about 5 pm at the old “Fitch’s Store” in downtown Garwin. Carol [Novotny] and Duane Yilek now own the building and donated the space for a casual potluck meal. Before the meal, all attendees gathered in a circle and held hands to remember those classmates who have left this earth. Richard Shaw led these moments and asked anyone who wished to do so to share a special memory. Classmates’ names lifted up during this time of remembrance were: Larry Dahms, Steven Haas, David Kienzle, Dennis Emke and Kathy [Shirk] Niedermann. Craig Cutler then led the group in prayer before the meal. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all and everyone had fun being in the old grocery store which has been so lovingly preserved by the Yilek’s. A total of twenty three classmates gathered over the two days for this 50th reunion event. Those not pictured at Saturday’s event but who attended Friday evening were Susan [Stamp] Dixon, Charlene [Clemens] Coon and Lorraine [Cooper] Faucett.
