The Junior High Football teams showed great improvement over the course of the season. This is only the second time in my 9 years of Coaching Jr. High Football at Gladbrook-Reinbeck; both the 7TH & 8TH grade teams finished with perfect records, the only time we did this in back to back years, and the first time a team was perfect in both 7th & 8th grade. Not only did they put up big numbers on the offensive side of the ball; both the 7th & 8th grade teams were solid on the defensive side of the ball, the 7th grade shutting out 4 of 6 opponents the 8th grade shutting out 3 of 6 opponents. As a coaching staff, we focused on the fundamentals of the game. The players did an excellent job of picking up the Offense, Defense, & Special Teams, giving us the luxury of practicing the skills of blocking and tackling on a more consistent basis. We were rather unfortunate with the weather we had, the teams played every game scheduled, however, lost several practices due to the heat. This was a very enjoyable and talented group of athletes to work with; they not only worked very hard, but did so with much enthusiasm and self discipline. We should expect great things from these young people, both on and off the field.

Opening the holes for the 8th grade this year were: Jed Peterson, Jacob Walters, Jaden McGhee, Spencer Goos, Joseph Pepe, Thomas Mussig, & John Edler. The QB: Joe Smoldt did a great job leading the offense. Eric Knaack, Slade Wager, Parker Bown, & Matt Roeding all ran the ball very well. Dmitriy Strohbehn, Ales Tscherter, Joseph Baugus, Hunter Beachler, & Tyler Pierce did a great job of both blocking for our backs and catching the ball.

Opening the holes for the 7th grade this year were: Bryce Schick, William Blakesley, Rhett Barnes, Christian Kibe, Hunter Smoldt, Kyle Koppen, Sam Cahalan, & Jake Moore. The QB: Hunter Lott did a great job leading the offense. Josh Saak, Walker Thede, Matt Johannsen & Gage Murty all ran the ball very well. Caden Kickbush, Cael Wyatt, Mason Skovgard, Bronson Wrage, Josh Peterson, & Owen Beach all did a great job of both blocking for our backs and catching the ball.

Hanna Sager & Mo Brown were both a great asset to the team; their organizational and managerial skills were valued and much appreciated.

Defensively, each and every one of these guys contributed. Throughout the entire fall, these guys displayed great skills and determination. They had excellent technique and had good knowledge of the game. We were able to run multiple sets; switching in and out of 4 and 5 man fronts, and 3-4 linebacker formations. The defenses dominated many of their opponents.

The coaching staff of Jeff Mayes and Todd Rickert really enjoyed working with each and every one of you. We wish you great success in the future.
