A new season is here and the Rebels have been working hard for the past month. We have fifteen girls out for basketball, which is a problem when you are trying to play both a varsity and junior varsity schedule. We have had to cancel the junior varsity games before Christmas, but hope to play a home schedule after the first of the year. All fifteen girls are dressing for varsity games.

This years’ squad has four seniors (Emily Snider, Erin Wentzien, Taylor Flamme, Allysen White), two juniors (Britney Keller, Ellie Stoakes), five sophomores (Nicole Adair, Amber Berendes, Hanna Christopher, Kyleah Dugan, Bailea Evenson), and four freshman (Hayley Weber, Leah Holman, Madison White, Lauren Husmann). Freshman Megan Oelschlager is injured and may not participate this season.

As you can see we have a mix of up and lower classmen as well as a mix of varsity and non-varsity experience. The girls have been doing a great job of running our system and reaching game goals. However we are having trouble putting the ball in the basket and scoring enough points to win ballgames. Hopefully this will improve as the season progresses. We also need to concentrate on our rebounding and being more physical around the basket. The Rebels played four games the first week of the season and came away with a 1-3 record. We beat Cedar Valley Christian (Cedar Rapids), 70-45, and lost to Denver 48-62, South Hardin 46-54, and Waukon 56-86.
