Rebel Golfers Win NICL West Conference

The Rebels have always been the best man at the NICL West Conference meet the past couple years. This was their year to have the spotlight on them since 2006. The Rebels traveled to Lincoln Valley in State Center and took the victory over some new faces. It was the first time our golfers would face South Hardin, West Marshall, AGWSR, and East Marshall.

The Rebels shot a 333 which was 17 stokes better than Grundy Center, South Hardin, and BCLUW who had three way tie for 2nd place. Grundy Center broke the tie by going to their 5th score. The role was reversed for the first time in a few years.

Leading the way for the Rebels was Kevin Trobaugh, Kevin was the NICL West Conference Champion by shooting an outstanding round of 78. Newcomer to varsity, Bradon Trepp, had a 4th place finish. Bradon has started playing better every week. Bradon defeated the #1 golfer from East Marshall in a four hole playoff to be all-conference. Jacob Smoldt finished 7th place for all-conference honors. Brady Billerbeck rounded out the all-conference with a 86 which was good for 9th place. The Rebels head to Grundy Center for Sectionals and hope to place in the top two to move on.

Rebels Golfer One Meet Away From State

The Rebels came out on top of the 1A Sectional held at Town & Country in Grundy Center. G-R avenged an earlier loss to Waterloo Christian and shot a 347 which advanced them to the District meet to be held at Pheasant Ridge.

This advances the whole team to districts, but Kevin Trobaugh and Jacob Smoldt advanced as individuals. They both shot 82’s which was good for 3rd and 4th place. Parker Bolt also scored a 91 for the day and Cobren Bird helped out with a 92.

The competition at Pheasant Ridge will be very good, but the Rebels will have a great shot to move on if we get consistent play from our guys. They are starting to come together at the right time. Great job guys!
