Letter to the Editor-Dallas E. Wiese

Dear editor, Just a quick note on some issues in the upcoming election on the Minimum wage. First: shouldn’t the market and the employee skills determine the wages? Second: Shouldn’t the minimum wage be a state issue, not a federal issue due to the extreme difference in the cost of living of Iowa and California and other states. Representative Dean Fisher gave a good example of the $15,000 income for a family in a recent news report. With all the benefits (food stamps, Medicaid, free lunches for children, heat assistance, earned income credit, etc), I believe these families would do quite well. As for Anne Michael’s letter claiming Joni Ernst advocated 40 cents an hour wages, this claim is so far from truth it defies the imagination. I’m sure voters will consider the source. As for Bruce Braley (or Bailey per Michelle Obama), I have wondered for quite some time how he could do his job in Washington when he was out campaigning and missing votes. Having worked thirty five years in a hot dirty coal fired generating plant and having my health insurance swept away by Braley supporting Obamacare, I am devastated. Remember to vote November 4, but before you do consider the intrusion of big government and loss of freedom that goes with it. Some would call this socialism. Dallas Wiese Toledo,Iowa 641-481-5984
